(More customer reviews)I always wondered why they put xenon bulbs along with modern LED flashlights in some flashlights. I'm still wondering after purchasing this item. The flashlight manufacturers claim that the LEDs are for close-up, while the xenon bulb is for distance. And I guess that some people might believe that...but I hope that YOU don't. With modern Luxeon LEDs and Cree (and generic) Emitters (of which Amazon sells a `ton' at very reasonable prices), you can get all the distance you want, and won't have to rely on a 1970's era xenon bulb, which has meager light. Yes, xenon bulbs ARE slightly brighter than krypton bulbs. But xenon bulbs are still dinosaurs, and should have disappeared by the 90's. But, as `I' went from krypton to LED flashlights...and missed the xenon bulb 'stage'...I just HAD to check them out. These flashlights being reviewed are monstrously heavy, yet only have limited usage...like putting a 'peashooter' on a tank. But I did find a use for the partially defective AA version I received: I put it with my first aid kit in case I need to look into someone's eye without doing any eye damage, as LEDs would probably blind them. [Follow-up: After a short usage, the 2D size flashlight bulb started failing also, just like the AA one. But I finally found the reason: the spring and spring-like mechanisms that connect the bulb and batteries will not retain their 'springy' configuration, and the power flow from the battery to the bulb becomes greatly diminished after a short while due to the poor contact. I recommend, for many reasons to avoid this produt.]
