Got a bunch of candles and hurricane vases when we got married last year... thought, "Hey, I'll get a lighter so I don't have to keep burning my hand trying to light these with matches or regular lighters." Saw these Coleman ones and figured they were probably sturdy and reliable since Coleman stuff is generally good and I thought they would be durable because they're made for camping.

They are nearly impossible to get lit, and they are completely impossible to keep lit if you manage to light them in the first place. I've tried adjusting the flame height, shielding the tip, and starting it in all different positions. I got two of these things together and they both suck equally.

I had just kind of come to terms with the fact that this type of lighter sucked and it took 5 minutes and a sore hand to light 2 candles... then I was at a craft store the other day and saw a different brand of long lighter in the candle aisle. It was cheap so I thought I should give it a try. I brought it home and open the package, slid the safety latch, pressed the trigger, and... wait... what was that on the end of the lighter? Flame? FLAME? But I only tried it once. I tried again. And again. It worked every time. I bought another one next time I was at the craft store. It worked, too. Maybe this style of lighter doesn't universally suck. Just these Coleman ones. I'm glad I didn't get one to rely on for a camping trip!
