(More customer reviews)I bought this headlamp to use on a trip to Haiti to work in a field hospital.I wanted the red lights to use when moving through a tent with 140 people and for use outdoors walking around ditches, using portable toilets at night and negotiating other obstacles.The light performed very well.I Used it for a week with no battery change.The projection of the white light was excellent for walking and working.There is however, a significant design flaw that seems as if the designers never tried the light before using it.The problem is that there is a battery meter that stays lit all the time.The led's for the battery meter are on the underside of the light causing the led from the meter to shine into your eyes!(A ridiculous design flaw).This is not much of a problem when using the white light as the battery led is not noticeable.With the red lights, the led is annoying and makes it hard to see.I had to use the red light by holding it in my hand.
Aside from this flaw the light is nearly perfect.It is reasonably priced, it is comfortable to wear, easy to adjust and the angle stays in place.It is also water resistant which is a definite plus in some situations.The light seems very solidly constructed unlike many other more expensive headlamps that I have had to throw out because they didn't last.I have yet to find a use for the blue lights.The manual says they are for map reading, but I did not look at any maps with the light.
I liked the headlamp so much I didn't want to return it.So I found a solution to the battery meter lights.You cannot simply turn the light upside down because the light only tilts in one direction.To solve the problem I took some of my wife's dark nail polish and covered the battery meter LEDs with nail polish.This allows just enough light to show to indicate battery life, but not enough to affect vision when the headlamp is being worn.
I reduced my rating to a 4 only because of this design flaw that could have been avoided by the manufacturer.If it wasn't for the nail polish I would have had to return it and give it a rating of 0.
