We just went through a power failure due to icing in New England and this lantern provided an amazing amount of light in our 'darkest hours'.I am using rechargable batteries in it and recommend it to anyone wanting a bright, relatively inexpensive power failure light.You can read by it or even have enough light to cook dinner.The new CREE LEDs are the key when shopping for a flashlight or lantern.I have a Coleman flashlight with the same technology bulb and it is like holding a searchlight when walking my dog along our dark country roads at night.
